For many of us, children are the #1 priority. And for many more of us, children still require a lot of work and time.
Kidding! Of course children are the #1 priority of all parents! So we thought it would be fitting to have an entire To Do list dedicated to our kids. In this template, we offer 3 different To Do Lists - a simple one page To Do list, a categorized To Do list, and a To Do list for morning and bedtime activities. Each list comes with fun children’s fonts and colors, so that kids might be tempted to use it, too!
Below are the worksheets included in this template.
One Page To Do List
A simple one page kids To Do list with space for 15 tasks in one column.
(Categorized) To Do List
A more structured kids To Do list. On one side is a general list and on the other side is a categorized list with 3 categories and space for up to 5 tasks per category. A notes section is also provided on the bottom right.
To Do List AM PM
A one-page kids To Do list for morning and bedtime activities with space for up to 22 tasks in total. A notes section is also provided at the bottom of the page.
Using the Template
Each To Do list worksheet has a date and title section at the top of the page. At the start of each day, enter today’s date by typing directly into the cell containing a date example. You may also choose to jazz up the standard “TO DO LIST” title with your own title.
Simple One Page List
Use this To Do list for general everyday children’s needs like reminders to pack school lunches and get new clothes. Type an “X” into the box provided at the start of each task to mark the task complete.
As a children’s activity, your child can use this list for fun to practice writing. Who knows, they might be an aspiring To-Do-lister.
Categorized To Do List
Use this list if you have a crazy-busy, kids-focused day ahead of you. This is a good weekend list to use when there is more time to accomplish more tasks. There are 3 categories available - 2 of them are pre-populated with example titles, which you can overwrite. Simply type directly into the cell at the top of each category. The section on the left can be used to list general tasks that may not pertain to a specific category.
The notes section at the bottom of this worksheet is a good place to put down reminders.
Morning and Bedtime List
The morning and bedtime list serves as a series of reminders, which will result in a smooth morning and bedtime routine. Enter up to 11 tasks for each section (morning time and bedtime).
If you are managing this list in Excel, the default text color is black, which is difficult to see against the midnight-blue background of the bedtime section. To fix this issue, select a lighter font color from the “Font Color” tool, found on the “Home” menu.
In addition to dropping an “X” into the box, there are a few other ways to mark off completed tasks. Below are some examples.
Example 1. Use “Wingdings 2” font type and enter an uppercase “P” to create a checkmark.
Example 2. Use the “Strikethrough” format to cross off completed items. To cross off a completed or canceled task, right-click on the cell containing the task, select “Format Cell” from the pop up list, and check the “strikethrough” box under “Effects.”
Example 3. Create color codes to represent task status (e.g. Blue = Done, Yellow = Not Done).
New Lists and Historical Records
With so many children’s activities, it is probably impossible to remember what was accomplished last week (or yesterday). But you won’t have to think about it - start saving previous lists for future reference. To duplicate a previous list, right-click on your preferred kids To Do list worksheet and select “Move or Copy” from the pop up menu. Next, select “Create a copy” and click “OK.”
Rename new worksheets (e.g. previous date).
Finally, reset the date on the original worksheet and delete any completed tasks or other information that you don’t want to carry over to a new list. Repeat the process to save another list at the end of the day.
Include Fun Illustrations
A kids To Do list is a great place to add fun illustrations. The morning and bedtime list already includes some good ones. You can add similar icons to other To Do list worksheets in this file. To add more illustrations, go to the “Insert” menu, select “Illustrations,” and click on “Icon.”
Then, choose an icon from the list and click “Insert.” The image will then appear on the worksheet.
Finally, drag the image to the appropriate location on the list. You can also modify image colors. To edit the image, right-click on it and select “Format Graphic”.
Change Color Scheme
You can modify your kids To Do lists with as many bright color schemes as you can imagine. To change the background color, highlight all relevant cells and use the “Fill Color” tool to select a color. To change text color, repeat these steps and use the “Font Color” tool.
Example. Change the AM and PM To Do list color scheme to something a little different.
